/our story

"We are one, our cause is one, and we must help each other if we are to succeed."                                                                                                                                                          Frederick Douglass

Brockton, MA is located about 25 miles south of Boston.  In 2004 our Liberty Tree, which stood at a site of the Underground Railroad, had to be taken down.  Located on High Street, renamed Frederick Douglass Avenue, promises were made to rehabilitate the area.  By 2014 the street was still sad and neglected -- but a small sapling struggled and managed to regrow at the site of the original Liberty Tree. Inspired by its tenacity, a group of residents reclaimed a small neglected garden plot on the street and went to work.   It is now our neighborhood's "Town Green".  The community tends the garden, adds plants to it, and keeps it tidy and welcoming.
